NOTE:

  1. Unless stated otherwise, figures presented here include collective data from all the aided community, unaided community and institutional schools.
  2. Aided schools are those schools, which receive regular government grant for teacher's salary and for other administrative purposes.
  3. Unaided schools do not receive regular government grant, but it runs with support from community, donations from other sources and school's own resources.
  4. Institutional schools do not receive regular government grant.
  5. School level refers primary, lower secondary and secondary. A school named as a Secondary School may have all the three levels - primary, lower secondary and secondary grades running under it. Similarly, a school named as a Lower Secondary School may have two levels - primary and lower secondary grades running under it.
  6. So, while counting the total number of schools running primary grades, together with the number of primary level schools, schools of secondary level and lower secondary levels also have to be counted if they have primary grades running under it. Similarly while counting the total number of schools running lower secondary grades, together with the number of lower secondary level schools, schools of secondary level have to be counted again if it has lower secondary grades running under it. So the sum total of all the schools running primary, lower secondary and secondary grades do not match with the total number of all the three levels of schools.
  7. School unit refers to the number of schools which has been counted as per its identity with the level name. So a secondary school has been counted just once even if it has all the three levels running under it. Similarly a lower secondary school also has been counted just once even if it has primary grades running under it. Hence the sum total of all the school unit is the total number of schools running in the country.
  8. The total number schools do not match with the sum total of aided, unaided and instutional schools, because they may have been counted two or more times. For example, a primary school may have grades 1-3 as aided grades and grades 4-5 as unaided grades. In such case, this particular school is counted two times: both as aided and unaided.
  9. Full trained refers to those teachers who have received ten months or more than ten months training.
  10. For primary teachers, partially trained refers to those teachers who may have received 2.5 months training, but have not completed 10 months . But for a lower secondary and secondary teachers, partially trained means completion of a training of one month and more than that but less than 10 months.
  11. Untrained for primary level teachers refers to those teachers, who may either have received less than 2.5 months training or may not have received any sort of training, and for lower secondary and secondary level teachers, untrained refers to a training of less than one month.
  12. * Student / Teacher Ratio: Average number of pupils (students) per teacher at a specific level of education in a given school year.
  13. * Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER): Total enrolment in a specific level of education, regardless of age, expressed as a percentage of the eligible official school-age population corresponding to the same level of education in a given school year.
  14. * Net Enrolment Ratio (NER): Total Enrolment of the official age group for a given level of education expressed as a percentage of the corresponding population.
